<a href="http://sharethis.com/"title="ShareThis" >ShareThis have released their analytics data to throw some insights into what the visitors are sharing in the internet.

From the chart released by ShareThis, it’s obivious that the Entertainment, Science & Technology blogs uses more of the <a href="http://sharethis.com/"title="ShareThis" >ShareThis widget to post the content to the social networks. And this indirectly implies that these sites are the one which are shared the most on the site.

So if you assume ( blindly ) that the ShareThis widget is used all over internet in all blogs, then Entertainment , Science & Technology occupies much space in the internet. Though it is not very sensible to conclude this, but this graph is intresting enough to visualize what kind of sites occupies the internet.

Hackers also now jumped into this social networking and GnuCitizen has created a social network for hackers and got about 1000+ hackers signed into this collaborative network to research on security loop holes in the online and electronic products. These ‘angel‘ hackers who hack the system on security issues and provide insight to the company in the security loop holes, so that the company can fix it.

“From our perspective, a hacker is a person people express admiration for his/her work, skills, creative edge, cleverness, uniqueness, intelligence, etc,” said GnuCitizen founder Petko D. Petkov in a blog post.

The network is built on Ning, a site allowing the creation of ad-hoc social networks, and programmers can create customized add-ons using the Google-backed Open Social API. GnuCitizen is famous for finding out various security concerns in various products including the Gmail’s security threat. GnuCitizen is encouraging businesses to use the site to seek out security researchers for jobs or particular projects

This obviously means that hotmail is the hottest product still in the email applications. People try to search a lot about hotmail, it’s help, tricks, tips etc compared to the Gmail.

Hotmail continues it’s grip in countries like Malaysia , Ireland, Spain

As a avid Gmail user, this trend patten made me dig in to hotmail and check what is so different in hotmail.

These are the features that could make hotmail out perform Gmail.

Outlook like Right & Bottom Pane Reading

Unlike Gmail, Hotmail asks the user to add an Unlisted email to add into contacts. This is one feature that I like and I don’t like Gmail. Sometimes you might forget to add an address, but at the same time you might feel it handy. But this actually makes your address book like a spam book.

Very fast accessing of mail compared to Gmail. Just a click, you will read the mail at that instance.

No labels, makes organizing the mails simple.

If anyone can find more reason of this pattern, please share your thoughts.

So, What is a Redirect Loop?

From the name you could easily understand that redirects just keeps on looping between a couple of webpages and doesn’t land in any of the webpage. These kind of redirects are termed as Redirect Loop.

The HTTP Standard states that a client browser should detect a infinite Redirect Loops. But some of the clients ( like Firefox, Internet Explorer ) just tries with limited number of redirects and then finally drops a warning page like above ( in Firefox ).

Most of the online users would be aware of the Phishing attack. There are also various kind of attacks, but Phishing is most common attack happening in the Internet through mails.

Few days back I got a mail from titled ‘Paypal’ with Subject that “You Account access is limited. Remove this limitation”. Obliviously, I opened it.

And the mail read like this

In the mail it has been stated that I’ve done some unusual online activity , so that they have put the account under control.

They want to verify my authentication. This mail alarmed me. Then immediately I opened up the header of the mail. The header is read as

And the mail is from “limitedpayapl.com“. If you could note it, even the word “paypal” is not proper. It’s “payapl“. Which is fake and Phishing domain.

So, I marked as spam. Now my big question is, If I haven’t opened up the header and directly clicked the link they have provided, how does the browser effectively alert users about this phishing site.

How Internet Explorer 8 warns about a phishing site

Now I’m bit careful enough while launching the site and I’m sure that I don’t type any extra information.

You would see a red colour URL address bar and extra indicator “Unsafe Website”.

Also, Internet Explorer 8 provides additional information regarding the type of attack. And in this it says that it’s a “Phishing Threat”.

These visuals are clear indicator that the user is going to visit a unsafe website.

How Mozilla Firefox 2.0 warns about a Phishing site

Firefox doesn’t stops block loading of website and doesn’t have any red alert URL title bar.

Firefox just popup a balloon alerting that you are going to visit a unsafe website. Also when you click on “Read More” you will be provided with more information about the kind of website you will be visiting.

Finally I was browsing in Safari 3.0, and see how safari reacts

Do you see any kind of alert in this browser? Anything? Yeah correct. Even I didn’t see any small indicator!!

As apple claims, Safari might be a best browser in this contemporary, but I don’t see a single sign of alert on such website.

This will sure lead to the unknown user to get into a Phishing website. Even I love to browse with Safari, but this one really makes me pissed off! Guess the developers of safari has to look something seriously into it.

I came across few sites which is reporting about this vulnerablity
